The main benefits of switching to LNG vehicles are primarily economic. Fuel costs compared to diesel are up to 30% lower, which is related to, for example, zero excise duty on this fuel in Poland. For international transport, a measurable benefit is the abolished road tolls in Germany by the end of 2023 (thereby saving 18,7 Eurocent for each mile driven as compared to diesel vehicles with EURO 6 engine class). In addition, LNG vehicles have a lower failure rate than diesel ones, resulting in lower service costs and fewer vehicle repair downtimes.
LNG engines are also environmentally beneficial. First, burning natural gas instead of diesel significantly reduces emissions – the emissions of PM10 and PM2.5 are practically eliminated. Moreover, CO2 emissions decrease by about 25%. And as if that wasn’t enough, sulphur oxides (SOx) are reduced by 90% and nitrogen oxides (NOx) by 70%.
